KT Submarine, the submarine cable subsidiary of South Korean telecommunications company KT Corp, revealed it has been awarded a contract worth 9 billion won ($7.
9 million) to build part of
the JUPITER cable system for a consortium led by SubCom.
Under the contract, KT Submarine will deploy a portion of the cable system
between Japan and the Philippines.
The total length of the line is about 5,600 kilometers, and construction is scheduled to begin
in the third quarter of 2020.
This cross-border submarine cable system is a JUPITER project jointly initiated by PCCW Global, Facebook, Amazon, NTTC Communications, PLDT and other enterprise consortiums, aiming to connect Maruyama and Shima cities in Japan with Los Angeles, with a total length of 14,000 kilometers
.
Among them, the Korean telecommunications company KT is responsible for the construction of the section connecting Japan and the Philippines, which is about 5,600 kilometers
long.
In fact, according to the original plan, the construction of the cable section was planned to begin in the third quarter of 2019
.
However, due to tenders and the pandemic, construction was delayed until the third quarter of 2020
.
ACCORDING TO REPORTS, JUPITER SUBMARINE CABLE WILL USE ROADM TO PROVIDE MORE THAN 60TBPS OF CAPACITY, ROADM USES WAVELENGTH SELECTIVE SWITCH (WSS) TECHNOLOGY TO PROVIDE CUSTOMERS WITH MORE DIVERSE CONNECTIONS AND ENHANCED RELIABILITY, AS WELL AS OPTIMIZE THE CONNECTION TO THE
WEST COAST DATA CENTER IN THE UNITED STATES.
