Nokia's Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) and NEC Japan have begun construction of the Japan-Guam-Australia (JGA) submarine cable system
.
Construction of the Japan-Guam-Australia submarine cable begins
JGA is being built by a consortium of companies, including the JGA South (JGA-S) path
between Sydney, Australia and Piti, Guam.
The consortium includes AARNet, Google and RTI-C
.
In addition, JGA North (JGA-N), a path between the main city of Minami Japan and Piti, Guam, is a private cable
with RTI-C as the sole purchaser.
The landing station completed by Guam Telecom will enable the interconnection
of JGA-N and JGA-S.
The 9,500-kilometer-long submarine cable system will have a design capacity of more than 36 Tbps and is expected to be completed
in the fourth quarter of 2019.
Philippe Piron, President of ASN, said: "We are honored to partner with RTI, AARNet and Google on the JGA project
.
The project will build on ASN's advanced technology to further provide high-capacity connectivity
in and across the Asia-Pacific region.
”
Toru Kawauchi, General Manager of NEC's Subsea Networks Division, added: "We are honored to have once again been selected by RTI-C for their third submarine cable
.
While both the Southeast Asia-U.
S.
and the Hong Kong-Guam cable system will provide lateral east-west connectivity in the Pacific, JGA will now provide much-needed vertical north-south connectivity, enabling high-capacity communications to reach every corner
.
