    Gabon's National Digital Infrastructure and Frequency Agency (ANINF) has announced that it has completed the expansion of the fiber optic network, which connects Boue in the north of the country to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea
    through the border towns of Bitam and Oyan-Bifoun-Lambarene.

    The new infrastructure, which is 528 kilometers long, is an important part of
    the China-Africa Backbone (CAB) Network project.

    In December 2019, the Ministry of Telecommunications of Cameroon and the Ministry of Telecommunications of Gabon signed a Memorandum of Understanding
    on the deployment of their respective fibre-optic networks under the China-Africa Backbone Network Program.

    The signing of the MoU aims to establish a legal framework for the interconnection between the fiber optic networks of the two countries and to establish a joint committee responsible for the implementation of the MoU and all subsequent agreements
    .

    According to reports, the telecommunications ministries of the two countries will reduce costs
    by enabling direct connection of their respective optical fiber networks through land cables without the need to go through international submarine cables.

    It is also part of the fourth phase of the China-Africa backbone network project, which will total 528 km and include a fibre optic network connecting the city of Bois with Eboro (on the border with Cameroon), passing through Koumameyong, Lalara, Mitzic, Oyem and Bitam, a total length of 411 km, and a branch path connecting Oyan-Bifoun-Lamberene, with a total length of 117 km
