Permits for the U.
S.
Department of Environmental Protection (DEC) and several state and federal agencies to deploy a 58-kilometer submarine cable directly connecting Canada and the United States through Lake Ontario are now secured and are expected to begin implementation
soon.
The 96-core fiber-to-submarine cable network will be installed by Canadian IT International Telecommunications and will be located northwest of Lockport on the coast of the United States, near the heart of downtown Toronto
, Canada.
Crosslake Fiber will own and operate the system as an independent operator and will provide dark fiber and managed services to enterprise and carrier customers, as well as ultra-low latency services
for financial networks.
The submarine cable is part of a 131-kilometer network between Toronto, Ontario and Buffalo, New York, and is expected to be available for service (RFS)
by October 2018.
In addition, Crosslake Fiber announced plans for a new submarine cable system, called Wall-LI, to connect the cable landing station in Wall (New Jersey) to Long Island (New York), which is expected to come on stream 2019
