Recently, the American company Constellation announced that it is about to develop a 10 MW solar project
.
The project will account for about
20% of the annual energy use of Ocean Town.
The solar panel project will provide energy for several major buildings in the town, mainly including the town hall, convention center and water plant
.
"This solar array is a leading project of its kind and a real example
of Ocean Town's commitment to renewable energy and a sustainable future for resort communities," said the mayor.
As a result of our ongoing partnership with Constellation, Ocean City will receive nearly 6 million kilowatt-hours of electricity from this solar power project in its first year and at a lower energy rate than traditional renewable electricity supply, helping Ocean City taxpayers save $120,000 annually
.
”
Upon completion, the solar project will meet Exelon's significant commitment to merge with Pepco Holdings in 2016 to add 10 megawatts of solar power in
Delmarva Power's Maryland service area.
According to the U.
S.
Environmental Protection Agency, the system is expected to produce more than 5.
6 million kilowatt-hours of electricity for oceanic towns and reduce carbon emissions by nearly 4,200 metric tons in the first year, equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions of 899 passenger cars
.
Agency estimates
.
Constellation's Executive Director of Distributed Energy Origins said, "We are proud to help Ocean City support Maryland's continued adoption of renewable energy
.
These types of projects provide our clients with clean energy solutions that blend on-site renewable energy and contract off-site renewable energy, as well as more traditional electricity and gas supply contracts
offered by Constellation in the United States.
