To meet the challenges associated with increasing data rates and the ongoing demand for higher bandwidth in data centers, CommScope today introduced a new fiber, LazrSPEED 550 Broadband Multimode Fiber (WBMMF).
It is reported that the fiber achieves up to four times the bandwidth
of standard multimode fiber over longer distances.
The new fiber is now available on the market as part of the Insta PATCH 360 pre-terminated fiber infrastructure solution and offers a range of products including trunk cables, modules, matrix cables, fan-out and duplex jumpers
.
"We're always working very hard to find new and better ways to help our customers meet their current and future bandwidth needs
.
" said
Kevin St.
Cyr, senior vice president of enterprise networking solutions at CommScope.
"LazrSPEED broadband multimode fiber is able to support greater throughput over longer distances than traditional multimode fiber, while maintaining support
for all legacy multimode applications.
This not only supports higher data transfer speeds with less fiber, but also opens the door to practical multimode terabit applications, extending the life of customers' data center infrastructure and helping customers save money
.
”
Multimode fiber continues to provide the most cost-effective, lowest-power platform for high-bandwidth fiber connectivity
in data centers.
With the addition of the LazrSPEED 550 WBMMF solution, the platform's capabilities have expanded to support higher speeds
over longer distances and with less fiber.
WBMMF extends the range of high-speed broadband operating wavelength spectra of existing specifications to support both a single wavelength of 850 nm (nm) and a wavelength range
from 850 nm to 950 nm.
This wide range of specifications enhances the ability of shortwavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) technology to transmit 40G and 100G data
over a pair of fibers at four different wavelengths.
"CommScope continues to collaborate with leading ecosystem partners in the data center industry to advance the development and standardization
of WBMMF solutions.
" "To meet the growing demand for higher bandwidth in data centers, our focus remains on supporting and improving
cost-effective solutions that enable high-speed data transmission over multimode fiber," said St.
Cyr.
