Recently, commissioners from Arapahoe County, Colorado, USA, have approved a license for a 75MW Hunter solar project, which will be listed as the second largest photovoltaic project
in Colorado.
Once the project is completed, Colorado's PV portfolio will increase by nearly 8%.
The solar farm will consist of 333,000 solar panels and generate enough electricity to light up to 16,000 homes
.
The Executive Director of the Colorado Solar Industries Association said, "This is undoubtedly one of the largest solar projects in Colorado and one of
the solar projects we know best about in the metropolitan area.
This is another sign that
solar energy is becoming a mainstream form of energy.
”
The PV project, proposed by California's Cypress Creek Renewable Energy, invested $136 million and developed over 303 hectares
.
Cypress Creek is entering into a power purchase agreement with the Intermountain Rural Electric Association, which will purchase and distribute power
from the proposed project on behalf of its 154,000 customers.
If negotiations with Intermountain go well, breakthrough power generation is likely to take place by 2019 and then officially operate
in 2020.
