On February 23, Shanghai Petrochemical's emergency R&D and conversion of special meltblown non-woven fabrics was successfully trial-produced.

Knowing that melt blown cloth is still a limiting factor in the production of masks, Shanghai Petrochemical gave full play to the advantages of polypropylene production capacity, technology, team and industrial chain, and immediately launched emergency technical research, and cooperated with local governments and qualified manufacturers to speed up the special use of melt blown cloth.
Melt blown cloth, commonly known as the "heart" of a mask, is the filter layer in the middle of the mask, which can filter bacteria and prevent the spread of germs.
"The special material for meltblown cloth is polypropylene with high melt index," said Lu Jun, the production manager of Shanghai Petrochemical Jinchang Company.
In order to solve the problem of high melt index, Shanghai Petrochemical has set up a research and development team to carry out formula research, test analysis and scale-up experiments, and strive to overcome various difficulties in equipment and technology, and finally successfully overcome the problem of high melt index polypropylene modified production.
It is reported that through process optimization, Shanghai Petrochemical is expected to increase production by about 2 tons per day in the short term, reaching a daily output of 8 tons of special materials for melt blown cloth.
In addition, since the outbreak of the epidemic, Shanghai Petrochemical has temporarily changed its production schedule and started full production and supply of medical and health raw materials that are in short supply in the market.
Previously, Yanshan Petrochemical, a subsidiary of Sinopec, successfully developed special materials for polypropylene meltblown non-woven fabrics on February 10, and has currently supplied 2.
