Recently, according to the government website of Hengyang, Hunan Province, China National Nuclear Industry Construction Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "CNNC") intends to invest in the construction of nuclear power plants
locally.
If all goes well, the plant will use the world's latest generation of nuclear power technology, the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor
.
The technology is mainly developed
by Tsinghua University.
On February 3 this year, the Hunan Provincial Nuclear Industry Geology Bureau and CNNC signed the Agreement on Deepening Cooperation in the Field of Nuclear Energy in Beijing
.
According to the agreement, the two sides will cooperate in nuclear power site selection in Hunan and central China, and jointly carry out the preliminary work of the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power project.
On the basis of selecting suitable nuclear power plant sites, the two sides are willing to jointly fund the development and construction of nuclear power projects as project initiators; The two sides will cooperate on the relevant supporting industries of high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power plants, including but not limited to uranium resource mining, processing and manufacturing of key equipment for nuclear power plants, and scientific research and production of basic raw materials
.
A person familiar with the National Nuclear Safety Administration said that high-temperature gas-cooled reactors are recognized by the world as the most likely to break through the new generation of nuclear power technology - the fourth generation of nuclear power technology
.
High-temperature gas-cooled reactors were also once unattended
.
It is difficult to see it in the planning activities of China's emerging strategic industries
.
However, CNNC announced on April 20 this year that the preliminary feasibility study report of the commercial 600,000-kilowatt Jiangxi Ruijin high-temperature gas-cooled reactor nuclear power project has passed the expert review, which will "lay a solid foundation for the smooth development of China's first commercial high-temperature gas-cooled reactor power station project.
