• Clariant has OK compost compostable and biodegradable certified pigments for coloring plastics, including compostable packaging
• Certification issued by TÜV AUSTRIA
• Certification label opens up new coloring options for masterbatch and packaging manufacturers, helping the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry achieve sustainability
In order to achieve sustainability goals and fulfill the promise of a circular economy for plastics, producers of plastic products are increasingly using degradable polymers
.
Following this trend, Clariant Pigments is committed to contributing to the development of degradable plastic products, launching a series of OK compost-certified pigment products, providing customers with new coloring options
.
Nine selected products from Clariant's PV Fast® and Graphtol™ ranges are now available with the OK compost certification label
.
As long as its use concentration in the final application does not exceed the maximum concentration limit, it fully complies with the requirements of the European Union EN 13432: 2000 standard, effectively contributing to sustainable development
.
Andreas Buder, Technical Marketing Manager for Clariant Plastics, said: "We are very proud of this achievement
.
It is an important part of our company strategy to provide more sustainable packaging solutions and strengthen our product portfolio
.
With the certification label Enables our customers to use bright colors in biodegradable products because of their ability to be industrially degraded
.
"
PV Fast and Graphtol series pigment toners are high performance organic pigments
.
Both product lines can be used in a variety of consumer product industry applications such as demanding food contact packaging, plastic cutlery/utensils or toys
.
The coloring of biodegradable polymers requires the pigment to meet certain properties in order to be considered degradable
.
For processing through organic recycling facilities, low levels of heavy metals and fluorine will be required and no ecotoxicity to plants
.
