    Shanghai, China/Munich, Germany, July 12, 2022, Clariant announced that it has been awarded a major contract by Wanhua Chemical Group to provide catalysts for its new maleic anhydride proje.


    Wanhua's maleic anhydride production plant will take the lead in adopting a new production proce.


    Jace Wang, Vice President of Clariant's Catalysts Business Greater China, said: "Sustainability is a very important part of our company's strategy, and we are delighted to be able to support Wanhua's ambitious and important projects with innovative catalys.


    Clariant's SynDane catalyst is well suited for this new production process, having previously been successfully demonstrated in performance tests using a MAN DWE® react.


    China is phasing out the use of non-degradable plastics, and maleic anhydride is an important base for the production of biodegradable plastics, polybutylene adipate/terephthalate (PBAT) and polybutylene succinate (PB.


    In addition, Wanhua has selected another Clariant catalyst, EnviCat N2O-S, for its operating Ningbo nitric acid plant to efficiently purify exhaust gas containing nitrous oxide (N2.


    To help minimize the damaging effects of this greenhouse gas, Clariant has launched a major initiative to provide its EnviCat N2O-S catalyst free of charge to 10 nitric acid producers worldwi.
