●Based on Floreon's proprietary technology to enhance the material properties of biopolymers to meet demanding material requirements
.
●Clariant's broad range of additives, such as stabilizers, flame retardants, and processing and surface aids, can be tailored for performance expansion based on specific industry/application needs
.
●The combination of technology, process skills and know-how will help to develop a reliable renewable alternative to petrochemical plastics for industries such as packaging, consumer goods, automotive, electrical and electronics
.
Shanghai, China/Moutenz, Switzerland, April 20, 2020 – Clariant’s Additives business and Floren-Transforming Packaging Limited recently announced an exciting new collaboration to preserve biopolymers At the same time, it further expands its use performance and market potential
.
Combining the strengths of Clariant's additives with Floreon's proprietary material solutions, this collaboration aims to provide plastics manufacturers and brand owners with more possibilities to use biopolymers as a viable, low-carbon footprint alternative Replacing petrochemical plastics, it can be used to manufacture both disposable and durable plastics
.
Floreon develops and markets a proprietary blend of polylactic acid (PLA) based technologies that contain 70-90% renewable plant feedstock and therefore contain carbon that plants capture from the atmosphere
.
Clariant has an industry-leading portfolio of sustainable additives, including a wide range of bio-based additives, that reliably deliver high performance and sustainability to users of the plastics value chain
.
At the 2019 German International Plastics and Rubber Exhibition (K Exhibition), Clariant launched the Exolit® OP Terra, Licocene® Terra and Licocare® RBW Vita series of bio-based additives, which greatly reduce the use of petrochemical resources and achieve more sustainable materials
.
The range of benefits is enormous
.
For example, by increasing processing efficiency or giving materials new properties, companies can reduce energy consumption and shorten cycle times
.
Product manufacturers will have the possibility to tailor production blends to suit specific processing techniques and applications, including some bioplastics that have hitherto failed to meet harsh conditions or environments
.
Shaun Chatterton, CEO of Floreon-Conversion Packaging, said: "Brand owners and plastics manufacturers are looking to provide customers with more sustainable material solutions, with goals including developing recyclable solutions, improving waste management, reducing carbon footprint and reducing resource usage, etc.
Floreon can really contribute to achieving these goals
.
Clariant has a strong ability to develop additives to meet the performance needs of the plastics industry, and as a small business, our team is very pleased to be able to rely on Clariant's expertise to push the benefits of biopolymers to new heights
.
Floreon has the potential to transform not only the packaging industry but many others, and we expect to launch the first product of this collaboration in the first half of 2020.
”
Clariant Group Chief Financial Officer Stephan Lynen commented: “We are delighted to be working with Floreon to take advantage of our range of sustainable additives to bridge the performance gap between biopolymers and other materials
.
We have more A way to support the transition to a circular economy by providing better options for the plastics value chain that meets the SDGs and consumer needs
.
For society, the environment and future generations, we have a responsibility to continuously improve Sustainable performance, reducing carbon footprint and waste emissions
.
”
Clariant's collaboration with Floreon, together with Clariant's company-wide EcoCircle initiative to support the transition from a unidirectional plastics value chain to a circular plastics economy, constitutes a joint development of new circular materials and technologies with partners across the value chain, towards the realization of a circular economy.
another step forward on the road
.
Combining technology, process skills and know-how to improve the performance of high-performance biopolymers to meet the demanding requirements of plastic applications
Supports the development of a full range of reliable renewable material options for industries such as packaging, consumer goods, automotive, electrical and electronics
.
