Recently, at the first "Digital China Construction Summit" held in Fuzhou, Wen Ku, director of the Department of Information and Communication Development of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, revealed that China will carry out the construction of 5G commercial base stations in the first half of next year, and produce the first batch of 5G mobile phones
in the second half of the year.
Wenku said that China is rapidly and steadily promoting the commercial process
of 5G.
In the second half of 2019, 5G will initially have commercial conditions, which is the roadmap
for China's 5G development.
The National Development and Reform Commission and other relevant departments have recently approved the pilot construction of 5G networks
by China Unicom, Telecom and China Mobile in some cities such as Beijing.
According to information released by the three major operators, China Unicom will carry out 5G pilots in 16 cities, including Beijing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, Guiyang, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Fuzhou, Zhengzhou, and Shenyang.
China Mobile will carry out 5G field tests in five cities: Hangzhou, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Suzhou, and Wuhan, each of which will build more than 100 5G base stations, and will also conduct 5G service application demonstrations in 12 cities including Beijing, Chengdu, and Shenzhen.
China Telecom's 5G pilot cities are currently tentatively set at "6+6", including the previously identified six cities
of Xiong'an, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Suzhou, Chengdu and Lanzhou.
In addition, the scope of the pilot will continue to be expanded according to the requirements of relevant ministries and commissions of the state, and six more cities
will be established.
