Recently, the Chilean Agricultural Authority (SAG) announced a ban on the use of glyphosate agrochemical preparations containing the surfactant polyethoxytalipidamide (POEA
).
Exemption Resolution No.
5328/2022 made Chile the first country
on the American continent to enact regulations on these characteristics.
The Chilean Agricultural Authority said it was a decision
made after a technical assessment on a scientific basis.
It "reaffirms the Ministry of Agriculture's commitment to developing sustainable agriculture that does not pose a threat to human, animal and environmental health"
.
According to the normative act, Chilean agencies said: Ensure that glyphosate shipped to Chile has the same quality as glyphosate used in Europe to prevent batches of older and more toxic preparations from entering the country
.
Tartrazine surfactant is applied in combination with glyphosate to help promote weed-based absorption
of glyphosate.
The fact that this mixture has been assessed to have a higher level of dosage than other preparations containing surfactants has led the EU to ban such mixed products
.
The Chilean Agricultural Authority stresses the importance of strict compliance with the safety measures and packaging of
agrochemicals prescribed by law.
In addition, according to Chile, in order to promote the correct use of these chemicals, the government has also implemented strict control and training programs
.
"The commercialization of agricultural medicines in Chile must always take place through formal channels, in line
with the institutions that inform the Chilean Agricultural Agency of the start of their activities before the Chilean Agricultural Agency and report on the sales and sales of their products year after year," said the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture.
These institutions will be regularly audited in the same manner to verify their compliance with the regulations in force"
.
