Cabot Introduces New Low Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) Carbon Black Products

Cabot recently introduced VULCAN® 3-LP carbon black, a new low polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) product for rubber applications and the fourth product in the Cabot LP carbon black family

The product is said to be useful in applications requiring control of very low PAH levels, such as consumer rubber products and food and drinking water contact applications

VULCAN® 3-LP is a reinforced pelletized carbon black designed for rubber products looking for higher reinforcement, tensile strength, abrasion resistance and tear resistance than semi-reinforced carbon blacks
.

Cabot's full line of LP carbon blacks, including VULCAN® 3-LP carbon blacks, are manufactured through a special process that results in very low and stable PAH content; this is in line with increasing regulatory requirements and quality certifications around the world

These requirements limit the PAH content of rubber articles in some applications, as well as the PAH content of the carbon blacks used to produce these rubber articles

Main applications include:

Rubber applications for consumer products such as toys, child care products, sports equipment, household goods, tools and apparel

Rubber products that are expected to be in the mouth and repeatedly come into contact with the skin for a long or short period of time

Rubber parts that come into direct contact with drinking water, including hoses and liners in drinking water systems, pipes and tanks

Rubber products that come into contact with food, such as gaskets, o-rings, seals, food conveyor belts, etc.
