market research firm Navigant Research released a microgrid research report this week that global microgrid project capacity has increased since the second quarter of 2017, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, where 10,204.
5 MW
was developed.
It is followed by North America with 7,779.
4 MW, but the region has twice the number of microgrid projects in the Asia-Pacific region at 1,105.
As of the second quarter of 2018, the number of tracked microgrid projects worldwide reached 2,134, with a cumulative capacity of 24.
98 GW, including the proposed microgrid capacity under development and 239 new projects, with a cumulative increase of 959.
7 MW.
Johnathon de Villier, research analyst at Navigant Research, explains, "While Asia Pacific and North America still account for nearly three-quarters of all microgrid capacity, Latin America saw the largest increase in this update, adding 363.
5 MW, a significant shift
from previous versions.
”
According to the report, other key trends include strong growth in off-grid areas and the rapidly narrowing
gap between solar PV and diesel capacity.
Solar PV added 111 projects with a total capacity of 475 MW, while diesel-powered microgrid projects added 45 with a cumulative capacity of 544 MW
