The Japan Wind Energy Association (JWPA) recently announced that by the end of 2020, Japan's cumulative installed wind power capacity was 4,372 MW, with a total of 2,531 generator sets

By comparison, at the end of December 2019, Japan's installed wind power capacity was 3,923 MW
.
In the past year, Japan has installed 141 new wind turbines at 19 different locations, with a net new installed capacity of 449 MW
.
The JWPA said it was the largest increase in
the country's wind power history.
All new capacity comes from onshore wind
.
In 2020, Japan did not have any new offshore turbines put into operation, and 7 MW of floating turbines
were phased out in Fukushima Prefecture.
