A new report by Navigant Research, a US market research institute, examines the evolution of the global smart city platform market, providing a forecast
of solution types, regions, software, and services through 2027.
According to the report, by 2027, the global smart city platform market size will reach $755 million
.
Driven by Internet of Things (IoT) deployments and other smart technologies, smart city platforms provide integrated capabilities to orchestrate data, applications, and services
at one or more levels across operational domains across multiple stakeholders.
"City platforms enable continuous service and technological innovation and enable cities to adapt platform offerings to dominate many business areas," said Eric Woods, research director at Navigant Research.
”
According to the report, cities need to develop capabilities that enable them to manage resources and offer their services
on platforms such as Uber, Airbnb, Amazon, Google and Facebook.
Navigant Research recommends that city leaders develop platform strategies
based on core principles of openness, use of standards, and alignment with other technology and business initiatives.
Technology and service partners need to work closely with cities to develop solutions tailored to local needs and support
them through service transformation.
