Crosslake Fiber, a North American and Western European communications network developer and operator, has revealed its latest submarine cable project, called CrossChannel Fibre, an undersea cable system connecting Slough, UK, and Paris, France, with a total length of about 550 kilometers
.
According to the plan, the system will contain 96 fiber pairs, each providing more than 20Tbps of capacity
.
To support the project, Crosslake Fiber has authorized EGS, a leading global provider of marine surveys and services, to conduct project maritime surveys
.
In addition, Tiger Infrastructure Partners, a capital partner of Crosslake Fibre, has invested additional capital into the Crosslake platform to support the CrossChannel Fiber system
.
Mike Cunningham, CEO of Crosslake Fibre, said: "We are delighted to launch this historic subsea project and provide new connectivity
on the vital data centre connecting Slough and Paris in the English Channel.
This new fiber infrastructure has been optimized to establish the shortest path between two pieces of data, providing users with enhanced technology solutions and significantly reducing operating costs
.
As the COVID-19 pandemic further drives the continued growth in bandwidth demand, submarine cables have never been more important
to the functionality of the Internet backbone.
”
According to the plan, the submarine cable system will be commissioned (RFS)
in the fall of 2021.
