Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has confirmed that it approved the country's long-delayed 5G auction notice on Friday, September 24, paving the way
for the start of spectrum auctions later this year.

According to the notice, potential bidders must submit their applications by October 27, and the "quotation" will be analyzed
on November 4.

The 5G auction will include frequencies in the 700MHz, 2.
3GHz and 3.
5GHz bands, as well as 26GHz millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum
.
All bands except the 2.
3GHz band will be divided into state and regional blocks, and the 2.
3GHz band will be available
only on a regional basis.

Under the terms of the auction, the winning bidder must offer 5G service
in all state capitals and the Federal District (Distrito Federal) by July 31, 2022.

This round of auction will be Anatel's largest ever spectrum auction.

The Brazilian government expects to receive up to R$45 billion ($8.
5 billion) in investment income
through auctioned licenses for four different frequencies of operation.
