Botswana's state-owned power company BPC recently announced that it canceled the tender for a 100 MW solar power plant and plans to reissue the tender to fully privatize
the project.
BPC said in a statement that the project, originally developed by BPC in partnership with private developers, is now planned to be developed through independent power producers, meaning it will be 100% privatized
.
It is reported that the new tender is scheduled to be completed
by the end of June 2019.
Previously, the 100 MW solar project in Botswana received 166 bids from local and international power producers
.
The national electricity provider predicts that Botswana's energy demand will more than double from around 600MW today to 1,359MW by 2035, and the grid and generation are being modernized to cope with the surge in electricity demand
