Bioplastics and polyolefin producer Blasco has developed two new recycled PP grades with recycled content from post-consumer waste
.
Both grades have been approved by the U.
S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a wide range of food contact applications, including consumer packaging, cap packaging, household goods and some thermoforming applications
.
According to Geoffrey Inch, director of sustainability for Blasco North America, this is another milestone in Blasco's journey towards a carbon-neutral circular economy
.
"These developments will also allow us to achieve our goal of supplying 300,000 tons of thermoplastic resins and chemicals with recycled content by 2025, and 1 million tons of thermoplastic resins and chemicals with recycled content by 2030," he said
.
To achieve these goals, Brasco uses a parallel solution of mechanical recycling and advanced recycling, and for this purpose seeks to establish partnerships and invest in other members of the value chain
.
In this way, Brasco not only promotes the use of mechanical recycling and advanced recycling, but also supports increased production of high-quality recycled materials
.
These moves are in line with Blasco's feedstock diversification strategy and its macro goal of expanding circular economy concepts in the plastics chain and becoming a carbon-neutral company by 2050
.
According to Blasco, its new thermoformed PP contains 25 percent post-consumer recycled content and meets the requirements of certain FDA food contact applications, including high-temperature packaging
.
The new cap and closure grades also contain 25% post-consumer recycled content and are best suited for injection-molded caps and closures in areas such as food and beverage, health, hygiene and cosmetics
.
