Independent research by plastics market and technology specialist MLT Analytics (MLTA) shows the potential for rapid growth in the use of polyethylene and polypropylene from renewable sources such as sugar cane, non-edible plants and bio-fats and oi.
According to MLTA analysis, in 2021, Blasco exported nearly 150,000 tons of bio-PE, mainly bio-HDPE and bio-LDPE grad.
MLTA CEO Stephen Moore said bio-based polyolefins are emerging as a key enabler for plastics suppliers and brands to meet their sustainability goa.
Regulatory pressure is also evide.
“Japan’s leading polyolefin supplier is well-positioned to achieve these goals,” Moore sa.
Currently, LDPE (especially for the coating of cardboard containers) and HDPE (mainly for packaging and bags) dominate the market, and bio-LLDPE and bio-EVA as well as bio-PP are also emerging as sustainable optio.
