Cologne-based material producer Bio-Fed has signed an agreement with Tokyo-based Kyokuto Boeki Kaisha (KBK) to designate KBK as Bio-Fed's distribution partner in the Japanese market

Bio-Fed, a division of Akro-Plastic GmbH and a member of the Feddersen Group, manufactures and markets biodegradable and bio-based plastic compounds under the M-Vera brand

In recent years, the company has added ISCC Plus and REDcert sustainable certified M-Vera compounds made from biomass-balanced polypropylene (PP) to its portfolio

Stanislaw Haftka, Director of Sales at BIO-FED, said: "The government's Roadmap for the Plastic Resource Recycling Strategy has given a strong boost to Japan's bioplastics market

Launched in May 2019, the strategy builds on the concept of "3Rs + Renewables" and includes milestone goals such as reducing single-use plastics by 25% by 2030; ensuring the adoption of all plastic containers and packaging by 2025 Easily sortable, reusable and recyclable designs; 60% of all plastic containers and packaging reused and recycled by 2030; plastic recycling doubled by 2030

KBK will distribute the complete M-Vera product line for blown film extrusion, injection molding, extrusion and thermoforming in Japan, as well as associated biodegradable or bio-based masterbatches
