The Maharashtra State Electricity Regulatory Commission has allowed Brihanmumbai Power Supply and Transport to commit to extend its existing power purchase agreement with Tata Power Company (TPC-G) for a period of 677 MW of electricity supply at the Trombay Thermal Power and Hydropower Station for a period of due diligence to ensure supply reliability and cost competitiveness for Mumbai's best consumers, and the Hon'ble Commission approved the extension in an order dated January 2, 2019, according to the Times of India
。
The Hon'ble Commission's order comes after BEST has set forth among other things, that the cheapest option before BEST is an extension
of its current PPA with the Trombay thermal power plant and Tata Power's hydroelectric power plant.
BEST and Tata Power have agreed to extend the PPA
under the existing terms and conditions.
Tata Power's CEO and Managing Director said, "Tata Power is committed to providing the most reliable and competitive products to meet the needs of
BEST consumers.
”
Starting April 1, 2019, BEST will conduct power partnerships for its Discom consumers from 2017-18, with all power partnerships planned for a five-year period commencing
on April 1, 2008.
March
31, 2019.
This will ensure that Mumbai consumers have access to lower electricity while having the added advantage of hydro peak shaving power, which is the cheapest in the country
.
Given transmission constraints, this will also ensure continuity of reliable power supply from the embedded Tata Power thermal power station and hydroelectric power stations to Mumbai consumers
