The use of recycled plastics in food service and other products will see an extraordinary increase, the CEO of Berry Global said on Tuesday, and Berry Global has helped meet that demand
.
Berry recently announced a partnership with restaurant chains Wendy's and Lyon del Basel to deliver recycled plastic clear cups to Wendy's U.
S.
and Canadian restaurants in early 2022 at a 20 percent recycling rate
.
Starting with large cups, all drinking glasses will use recycled plastic by 2023
.
Tom Salmon, Berry's global CEO, told ICIS: "The volume is going to grow exponentially.
Wendy's aims to implement this philosophy into their entire set of cups, and we fully look forward to working with them to make that happen.
"
He pointed out that in the first two years, the amount of polypropylene (PP) chemically recycled will reach about 10 million pounds (4,536 tons), which means that more waste plastic will be diverted from landfills
.
