its strategy to move away from nuclear power.
Belgium plans to double its offshore wind capacity
Currently, Belgium has four offshore wind farms with a capacity of 871 MW
.
The government wants to increase offshore wind capacity to 2.
2 GW by 2020 and 4 GW
by 2030.
After 2020, the government plans to designate a new area with an area
of 221 square kilometers near French waters.
"The North Sea is a key area
in our ongoing renewable energy transition.
" Philippe De Backer, Belgium's North Sea state minister, said
in a statement.
The Doel and Tihange nuclear power plants in Belgium, with a total capacity of 6 GW, are expected to shut down
