On July 22, Bayport Polymers, a joint venture between Total Energy and Borealis, announced the commercial operation of a new ethane cracker with an annual output of 1 million tons of ethyle.
The nearly $2 billion project is located at the Total Energy Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, and is operated by Total Energy's Port Arthur Refine.
Ethylene produced by the cracker will be used as feedstock for Baystar's existing polyethylene unit, as well as the new Borsta(R) Technology polyethylene unit currently under construction in Bayport, Tex.
