On November 13, 2020, BASF has restarted toluene diisocyanate (TDI) production at its 300,000-ton/year plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany, although production has not increased enough to allow the company to lift the degree of force majeure
.
A market source close to the plant said: “BASF is starting up the TDI unit and is currently producing, but it has not reached a high enough level to lift the force majeure
.
The company declared force majeure on August 31 after encountering technical problems, and has since tried to restart the factory without success until now, the sources said
.
Another source said: “We expect BASF to resume normal production by the end of November, and they have started production now, but not yet at a level where the force majeure can be officially lifted
.
The force majeure in Ludwigshafen has exacerbated tensions in the global TDI market
.
"The force majeure remains at our TDI plant in Ludwigshafen,
" a BASF spokesman said
