BASF will increase its production capacity for hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) in Pontecchio Marconi, Italy, and Lampertheim, Germany
.
As part of a multi-step investment plan, BASF aims to support the growing demand for light stabilizers in durable plastics applications and provide more supply security to customers around the world
.
“We are seeing a growing demand for sustainable materials for applications such as automotive, building materials and greenhouses to meet today’s and future global challenges
.
As a leading global manufacturer and supplier of light stabilizers, we are expanding our to meet the growing needs of our customers
,” said Dr.
Achim Sties, Senior Vice President Performance Chemicals Europe at BASF.
“The accompanying infrastructure investment will also help improve the resilience and efficiency of our operations
.
We are committed to continuing to be a trusted and reliable partner for our customers
.
"
Increased scrutiny of plastic use and disposal has prompted the industry to focus on more sustainable solutions
.
Allowing plastic materials to last as long as possible in a given application will minimize waste
.
The integrity and durability of plastic materials can be adversely affected by exposure to sunlight and artificial light, which can cause chemical bonds in polymers to break
.
Photodegradation can lead to cracking, chalking and reduction of physical properties such as impact resistance and tensile strength
.
BASF's HALS Tinuvin®, Chimassorb® and Uvinul® play a key role in protecting polymers from UV radiation and are effective inhibitors of free radical-induced degradation
.
This feature helps extend the life of the product
.
The production sites in Pontecchio Marconi and Lampertheim are world-scale strategic production sites for HALS and NOR® HALS, serving customers worldwide
.
BASF continuously invests in updating and expanding production capacity, including the surrounding infrastructure, to ensure that the highest quality products are produced efficiently
.
BASF operates a global production network and is the only plastic additive supplier with production sites on four continents
.
