● BASF realizes renewable energy projects by signing VPPA totaling 250 MW
● The energy supply of more than 20 production sites will be replaced by solar and wind energy
● Renewable energy will account for more than 25% of BASF's total electricity consumption in North America
BASF is committed to using renewable energy solutions to power its production sites in the United States and has signed virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) for wind and solar energy totaling 250 megawatts (M.
“Renewable energy is an important tool for achieving BASF’s ambitious goal of net-zero emissions by 2050,” said Michael Heinz, member of the Executive Board of BASF Europe and Chairman and CEO of BASF .
The joint agreement for the output of 250 megawatts of renewable energy generation capacity would mean the purchase of more than 660,000 megawatt hours of electricity annually -- equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 90,000 average American hom.
“These agreements help us meet our clean energy goals in regions where local utilities cannot provide enough renewable energy,” said Tobias Dratt, President, BASF North Ameri.
To achieve its ambitious emissions targets, BASF is working with a variety of partners driving sustainable change in the energy sect.
Last year, the partnership with EDF Energy Services added 35 MW of wind energy capacity to the energy mix at BASF's production sites in Freeport and Pasadena, Tex.
BASF aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2030 compared to 2018 levels and achieve net-zero emissions by 205 An important lever for lowering emissions is replacing fossil electricity with fossil-free electrici.
