Bangladesh has begun operating its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal
    in the country, Singapore/Dhaka, Aug.
    20, Reuters reported.
Prior to this, the project was delayed
due to technical problems and bad weather.

The floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), which arrived in Bangladesh in April this year to unload its first load of Qatari LNG and park it permanently as an import terminal, began operations
    last Saturday.

This start-up project will enable Bangladesh to import LNG to offset the decline in domestic gas production, thereby meeting the industrial needs and power generation
of 30% of the country's population.

Since arriving in Moheshkari near Cox's Bazar in southeastern Bangladesh in April, bad weather has hampered FSRU docking efforts, preventing it from connecting to imported infrastructure and unloading the first shipment of Qatari LNG
    , officials said.

The country of 165 million people relies on natural gas resources for 70 percent of its energy production, but declining supplies struggle to keep up as demand increases, prompting it to consider a range of LNG projects
