According to Xinhua News Agency, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a $120 million loan project aimed at upgrading and expanding the transmission system in the Chattogram region of southeastern Bangladesh, which has a population
    of more than 4 million.

The Bangladesh Power System Upgrade and Expansion Project is the first AIIB financed project approved under the Bank's Accountability Framework, which came into effect
    on January 1.

The project will build and upgrade more than 46 kilometers of double-loop transmission lines and associated substations and line brackets
    .

The project will also improve voltage stability, reduce voltage fluctuations and expand demand for electricity, allowing more homes and businesses to connect to the regional grid
    , the AIIB statement said.

The Bangladesh Power System Upgrade and Expansion Project is one of
four energy projects in Bangladesh funded by AIIB.

All four projects are in line with the Bangladeshi government's goal of achieving affordable electricity
for all by 2021, the AIIB said.
