According to the Oil & Gas Journal website reported on May 28, data from Baker Hughes, the number of drilling rigs in the United States increased by 2 units to 457 units as of the week of May 28, a figure compared with the same period last year.
The number of onshore rigs increased by 2 from last week, totaling 442 units; the number of offshore rigs remained unchanged at 14 units.
The number of US oil directional drilling rigs increased by 3 from last week to 350, compared with 222 in the same period last year.
Among the major oil and gas producing states, Texas saw the largest increase in the number of drilling rigs, increasing by 4 to 218.
The number of rigs in Oklahoma increased by 2 to 28.
Pennsylvania dropped by 2 to 17.
The number of rigs in eight states remained the same this week: 53 in Louisiana, 16 in North Dakota, 11 in West Virginia, 10 in Ohio, 9 in Utah, 6 in California, 4 in Wyoming, and 4 in Alaska.
The number of Canadian drilling rigs increased by 4 to 62, 42 more than 20 in the same period last year.

Baker Hughes: US rig count up 2 units to 457
The US drilling rig count increased by 2 units to reach 457 rigs working for the week ended May 28, according to Baker Hughes data.
The number of rigs drilling on land was up 2 units week-over-week with a total of 442.
US oil-directed rigs were up 3 units from last week at 350.
Of the major oil and gas-producing states, Texas saw the largest increase.
Oklahoma gained 2 rigs to reach 28 running for the week.
Pennsylvania dropped 2 rigs and stands and stands at 17 rigs running.
Eight states remained unchanged this week, namely Louisiana, 53; North Dakota, 16; West Virginia, 11; Ohio, 10; Utah, 9; California, 6; Wyoming, 4; and Alaska, 4.
Canada's rig count increased by 4 units to 62 rigs drilling for the week.
