According to the Oil & Gas Journal website reported on May 21, the data of Baker Hughes showed that the number of drilling rigs in the United States increased by two in the week of May 21, reaching 455, compared with 318 in the same period last year.
The number of onshore rigs increased by 3 from last week, totaling 440; the number of offshore rigs decreased by 1 to 14.
The number of US oil directional drilling rigs increased by 4 from last week to 356, compared with 237 in the same period last year.
Among the major oil and gas producing states, Oklahoma has the largest increase in the number of rigs, increasing by 4 to 26.
New Mexico increased by 2 to 26.
The number of rigs in Texas and Louisiana fell by one each, to 214 and 53 respectively.
The number of rigs in nine states remained the same this week: 19 in Pennsylvania, 16 in North Dakota, 11 in West Virginia, 10 in Colorado, 10 in Ohio, 9 in Utah, 6 in California, and 4 in Wyoming.
The number of Canadian rigs decreased by one to 58, which was 37 fewer than the 21 in the same period last year.

Baker Hughes: US rig count up 2 units to 455
The US drilling rig count increased by 2 units to reach 455 rigs working for the week ended May 21, according to Baker Hughes data.
The number of rigs drilling on land was up 3 units week-over-week with a total of 440.
US oil-directed rigs were up 4 rigs from last week at 356 units.
Of the major oil and gas-producing states, Oklahoma saw the largest increase.
New Mexico gained 2 rigs to reach 26 running for the week.
Texas and Louisiana dropped a single rig each to hit 214 and 53 rigs for the week.
Nine states remained unchanged this week, namely Pennsylvania, 19; North Dakota, 16; West Virginia, 11; Colorado, 10; Ohio, 10; Utah, 9; California, 6; Wyoming, 4; and Alaska, 4.
Canada's rig count decreased by 1 unit to 58 rigs drilling for the week.
