Bahrain announces the discovery of the largest oil and gas field ever recorded

According to the state-owned BNA news agency, authorities estimate that the newly discovered oil and gas field reserves are many times
greater than Bahrain's only known oil field.

The BNA did not disclose the size of the new light shale oil and gas, nor did it provide details
on the expected date to start production.

Bahrain has the lowest hydrocarbon production in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC
    ).
Other GCC member states include Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates
    .

Bahrain currently has only one oil field with hundreds of millions of barrels of crude oil
    reserves.
This field is the first in the Gulf region to be discovered and put into production
    .

Currently, in addition to producing more than 1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, the field will also produce 50,000 barrels per day of oil
    .

Bahrain derives about 80 percent of its revenue from oil production and an additional 150,000 barrels per day from the Abu Safah field, which it shares with Saudi Arabia
