Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and High Technology Ramin Guluzade and Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev recently met with representatives of Huawei to discuss the feasibility of
the project on laying a submarine cable system connecting Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
According to reports, this submarine cable plan is part of
the Trans-Eurasian Information Highway (TASIM) backbone project.
In December 2013, China Telecom, Kazakh Telecom, Ruszkom, Turkish Telecom and the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan signed a preliminary memorandum of understanding
on the implementation of the TASIM system in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Once completed, the fibre backbone will be extended from Frankfurt (Germany) to Hong Kong via two alternative routes, passing through 20 countries (southern and northern feeder lines).
