Materials supplier Avant has introduced a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) with post-consumer recycled (PCR) content that can be used in certain food contact applications
.
The grade received a No Objection Letter (NOL) from the U.
S.
Food and Drug Administration as part of the company's reSound portfolio
.
The new reSound REC TPE has a hardness of 65 Shore A and contains 25% PCR content from recycled PP
.
Evante said the FDA's NOL confirmed that the recycled material contained in the formulation could be used to make certain food contact items
.
According to Avant, the PCR-infused formulation has performance comparable to premium TPE and offers a more sustainable option in applications such as toothbrush grips and other personal care products
.
It also applies to certain FDA food contact items
.
This TPE is natural grey, can be coloured and is compatible with injection moulded or overcoated PP
.
Matt Mitchell, Global Marketing Director, Evante Specialty Engineered Materials, said: "This FDA assessment should enhance OEM and consumer confidence in incorporating recycled materials into products facing stringent regulations
.
Expanding our recycled content TPE offerings The combination stems from our ongoing commitment to developing sustainable solutions with specialized performance requirements to achieve our customers' innovation and sustainability goals
