Australia's first grid-connected large-scale solar and battery storage project has begun supplying electricity to 3,000 homes and businesses in Far North Queensland (FNQ
    ).

    The project includes a 10.
8 MW solar farm with more than 40,000 solar panels
    .

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has provided $17.
    4 million in funding
for the Lakeland Solar and Storage project on the Cape York Peninsula near Cooktown, 240km northwest of Cairns.

The CEO of ARENA said, "Conergy's project helps demonstrate the importance of
combining storage technology with large-scale solar energy.
The Lakeland Solar Project is a demonstration of
how integrated solar cells and batteries can work together to provide an adjustable power feed when needed.

The project has been tested, and part of the grid continues to provide power
while disconnected from the main grid.
This capability will improve the reliability of local power supply and pave the way
    for other marginal areas.

The managing director of Conergy said, "The renewable energy market is growing steadily due to important projects like this and the support of investors, as the price of solar and storage will drop
significantly as the demand for this configuration technology increases.
