Armenia's National Ministry of Energy Infrastructure and Natural Resources announced on Friday that Armenia is moving forward with the construction of
a new high-voltage transmission line between Armenia and Iran.
According to reports, the 400 kV overhead transmission line from Gegharkunik in Armenia to Iran has been awarded the main construction contract by Iran's SURIR company, with a total length of about 279 kilometers and a total cost of 107.
9 million euros

The project is part of
a gas-to-electricity exchange agreement signed between Armenia and Iran.
Armenia has been supplying electricity to northern Iran for many years in exchange for gas from the Islamic Republic of Iran
.
According to a statement issued by the Armenian Ministry of Energy Infrastructure and Natural Resources, the new project will bring the power transmission capacity to 1,200 MW, which will help "improve the level of energy security in Armenia.

Armenia has been dependent on Russian gas
imports.
However, in recent years, Armenia has been implementing power swap agreements
with Iran.
