Argentine President Mauricio Macri announced in Buenos Aires on Thursday that domestic power producers will be able to bid for natural gas supplies
from August as the Argentine government gradually relinquishes control of the energy market.
The change comes at
a time when rising shale gas production in Argentina's Wacamurta Shale Vision has brought the country closer to a gas glut.
An Argentine government official said earlier this month that such auctions would account for 70 percent
of wholesale supply in March or April 2019 as the Argentine government phases out the existing fixed-contract system.
