On October 28, CNOOC announced an important breakthrough
in deepwater natural gas exploration in the eastern waters of the South China Sea.
The newly discovered Liuhua 28-2 structure will efficiently drive the joint development of surrounding small and medium-sized gas fields to ensure the supply of clean energy in
the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Liuhua 28-2 structure is located in the northeast of Baiyun Sag, 270 kilometers southeast of Shenzhen, with an average water depth of about 650 meters, a drilling depth of about 3,400 meters, and a thickness of 23 meters
    in the drilled gas layer.
Compared with the previously discovered whole gas field, the structural geological conditions of Liuhua-28-2 are more complex, with less basic data and great
    difficulty in drilling.

In 2022, both evaluation wells of the Liuhua 28-2 structure will be drilled into high-quality gas formations, and the reserve scale will continue to expand, which is expected to drive the joint development
of surrounding small and medium-sized gas fields.

There are 42 oilfields and 9 gas fields in the eastern part of the South China Sea, which is an important oil and gas production base
    in China.
In the past three years, the annual output of natural gas in the eastern oilfield of the South China Sea has remained above 6 billion cubic meters, and the proportion of natural gas in the total oil and gas production is nearly one-third
    .
Baiyun sag is a key area for deepwater oil and gas exploration and development in China, and China's first deepwater gas field group
    has been built.
Liwan 3-1, Liuhua 34-2, Liuhua 29-1 and other 9 gas fields rely on each other and "string beads into a chain", with a daily production capacity of nearly 20 million cubic meters and a cumulative production of more than 50 billion cubic meters
    of natural gas.
After the landing of clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient natural gas resources in Guangdong, the situation
of "lack of oil and less gas" in the Greater Bay Area has been effectively alleviated.
