According to the US technology website PC World, Damon McMillan of the United States invented an all-solar self-driving ship called the "Ocean Stormer", and said that the ship is powered by solar energy to cross more than 2,000 miles (about 3220 kilometers) of sea.
Macmillan is captain of the Ocean Stormer, which is expected to be the first unmanned, fully solar-powered vessel
capable of crossing the ocean on its own initiative.
Macmillan and three of his friends were inspired by the robot sailing competition to study the project, which took two and a half
years.
Macmillan said they conducted countless trials and made countless mistakes to build the ship
.
"If I wanted to do it overnight, I wouldn't stick to research
," he said.
Just go a little bit at a time
.
”
The "Ocean Stormer" has a complex design, and it is not surprising
that it took more than two years to build.
The boats are powered by two layers of 100-watt extremely thin solar panels and a brushless engine, and the excess energy is stored in batteries, so the Seager can last up to three days
without the need for excess sunlight.
The ship is also equipped with satellite modems, an Arduino-based autopilot system, and software developed by the team to keep the boat on
course.
Macmillan plans to launch the ship on May 30, Memorial Day, in Avila Beach, California, halfway
between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The Ocean Stormtrooper will head southwest toward Hawaii, where Macmillan will recover
it a month later.
