.
The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) was established in January 2019.
Its goal is to evaluate the plastic industry chain from the entire life cycle, so as to protect the environment and explore the value of plastic waste

Received US$1 billion in funding from 47 companiesJacob Duer said the coalition is currently receiving a total of $1 billion in funding from 47 companies to reduce plastic waste
.
With the support of major packaging value chain companies, the Alliance to End Plastic Waste has now established links with France, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam
.
About half of the 14 approved projects have already been implemented, Duer said
.
“All projects will be up and running in 2020,” Duer said.
“While not at the pace we would like right now, we are making sure we can move faster and continue to approve new projects where possible

The factory is part of a project called Closing the Loop, which also includes training women entrepreneurs to develop a profitable waste plastic collection and processing material system
.
The project was launched in 2018 by the nonprofit ASASE Foundation, and the coalition announced earlier this month that it would support the work

It is reported that in the first year, the company has processed 35 metric tons of waste plastic material, and the goal is to increase the waste plastic processing volume to 2,200 metric tons next year
.
To achieve this, the plant will produce granules by optimizing the plant's cleaning line, installing LDPE dewatering dryers, installing new pulverizers and screens for HDPE, and adding extruders
.
Duer said the coalition could go wider in addressing sustainable development issues, not only to deal with more waste plastics, but also to create more job opportunities for local communities
.
At the same time, it is hoped that projects that can be replicated or expanded can be developed
.
In addition to supporting waste plastic factories in Ghana, other initiatives the coalition has announced include the removal of more than 1 million pounds of plastic waste from the Ganges River in India each year, and projects built around the development of "social enterprises" to help alleviate India and Vietnam's Urban waste plastic
.
Duer said that in most cases, the alliance is happy to provide financial and technical support for some mature projects that have links with local environmental groups
.
Duer added that if a project can get help from the consortium, it will get more outside funding
.
"Every week investors say to me, 'We have plastic waste disposal investment funds
.
A lot of times, they are looking for projects that have been 'reduced risk' and can be relatively safe to invest in, and the alliance is where they are looking to invest.

Expanding the Alliance's Global Partnership FootprintAnother cooperative project of the alliance expands its business to Europe and the United States
.
Late last year, the alliance partnered with Plug and Play, a Silicon Valley-based company that operates a platform that attracts investment to technology startups in different fields
.
In recent months, the Alliance and Plug and Play have launched a series of business incubation projects in California, France and Singapore, aimed at finding technologies on the market that can help with the collection and disposal of plastic waste
.
Several players within the recycling industry, including AMP Robotics, Continuus Materials and Resynergi, are already involved in these business incubation projects
.
The alliance also intends to expand its footprint to China
.
In January this year, Jacob Duer and his party visited China to discuss the model of establishing a regional cooperation mechanism in China, and participated in the China Plastics Value Chain Stakeholder Dialogue hosted by the Foreign Investment Committee of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation

.
The participants agreed that it is necessary to pay attention to policy trends, strengthen industry research, formulate unified standards, and call on the industrial chain to strengthen cooperation with stakeholders in different links such as production, circulation, processing, collection management, and recycling, find suitable technical solutions, and explore the establishment of sustainable cooperation model
