Nokia Alcatel Submarine Networks has signed an agreement with Vocus Group to provide turnkey services
for the latter's 4,000-kilometer Australian-Papua New Guinea-Solomon Islands submarine cable system.
Last month, Singapore-based Vocus was awarded a A$137 million contract by the Australian government to build an undersea fibre optic cable system
connecting Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
Vocus said construction of the Coral Sea cable system, which is expected to be completed by the end of next year, will now begin a comprehensive survey, manufacturing and deployment program
.
Vocus Telecom also plans to build a domestic submarine cable network in the Solomon Islands to connect the main islands
of the Solomon Islands.
