According to Reuters, Albania received interest from six companies to build the first solar power plant project
.
The National Commission is evaluating the companies to determine eligibility
for the next phase.
It was revealed that the six companies were from the United States and Europe
.
The country's authorities said in a statement that bids were being inspected and evaluated
against the government's competition criteria.
The ministry said the investment is an important milestone as it will not only increase electricity output but also promote the development of
renewable resources.
With more than 90 percent of Albania's electricity coming from rivers and newly built power plants not working, the government wants to install 120 megawatts of solar and 70 megawatts of wind capacity
by 2020.
