According to news from World Natural Gas on June 16, Air Products, a US LNG equipment manufacturer, announced a multi-billion-dollar plan to establish a new plant in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Net-zero hydrogen energy complex
.
Air Products Canada, a subsidiary of Air Products, and the Canadian government and Alberta jointly announced plans to build a hydrogen complex
.
In 2018, Air Products started the core work of this complex
.
The complex started with a net-zero hydrogen production and liquefaction facility valued at US$1.
The facility will capture more than 95% of carbon dioxide (CO₂) from raw natural gas and store it safely back underground
.
Hydrogen fuel electricity will offset the remaining 5% of emissions
Air Products said it will use advanced hydrogen technology and innovative design to achieve net zero emissions
The project is expected to produce 1,500 tons of hydrogen per day and capture more than 3 million tons of carbon dioxide per year
