A REPORT RELEASED BY GLOBAL CONSULTING FIRM SYSTEMIQ SHOWS THAT COUNTRIES SPEND $3 TRILLION
ON HEALTH CARE DUE TO AIR POLLUTION.
The report argues that switching to electric vehicles and reducing the total number of cars on the road could greatly improve air pollution, and that gasoline vehicles are a driver of huge healthcare costs
.
The analysis shows that low-carbon solutions and markets have advanced faster
since the Paris Agreement.
"Low-carbon solutions are being combined with digitalization to restructure the economy
.
The fossil fuel industry is declining," the report noted, adding that the window for long-term fossil fuel investment is rapidly closing
.
The report further notes that low-carbon progress is accelerating
across all sectors of the economy, despite rising greenhouse gas emissions and global temperatures.
"The cost of solar energy is falling rapidly in multiple markets, wind power has made them a better option than fossil fuels, and the pace of development of electric vehicles is constantly repeated
.
"By 2030, we will have more competitive low-carbon solutions for industries that account for 70% of emissions, including heavy road transport, heating and agriculture
," the report argues.
