Recently, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Solar Alliance (ISA) signed a cooperation agreement to promote solar energy deployment
in the Asia-Pacific region.
ADB and the International Solar Alliance jointly promote solar deployment in the Asia-Pacific region
The collaboration envisions solar power generation, solar mini-grids, and transmission systems that integrate solar energy into the grid, among other things
.
ADB said in a statement that the two sides will also cooperate
in promoting solar knowledge sharing and developing a technology roadmap.
The two sides will also develop financing tools to support solar deployment, and conduct research and consultations to explore the mobilization of concessional financing
through ADB-managed trust funds or special funds.
Upendra Tripathy, interim director general of ISA, and Bambang Susantono, ADB's vice president of knowledge management and sustainability, signed the agreement in the
presence of Finance Minister and ADB President Arun Jaitley.
"ADB's energy policy commits to provide $3 billion annually to invest in clean energy, including solar projects
in developing countries, by 2020.
" Bambang Susantono, ADB's Vice President of Knowledge Management and Sustainability, said, "We are pleased to partner with ISA to mobilize additional investment to meet ISA's goal of
deploying affordable solar energy at scale.
”
The Gurgaon-based ISA is now a treaty-based intergovernmental organization
.
The organization is a coalition
formed after the Paris Declaration to promote solar energy among its member countries.
The ISA's main goals include deploying more than 1,000 GW of solar capacity globally and investing more than $1 trillion in solar energy
by 2030.
As Modi announced the joint launch of ISA with French President François Hollande on November 30, 2015, India set an ambitious target of deploying 175 GW of renewable energy, including 100 GW of solar
, by 2020.
Headquartered in Manila and established in 1966, ADB is committed to reducing poverty
in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration.
