Swiss power and automation group ABB has won an order
for the supply of HVDC converter stations.
The converter station is used for a 1.
3 GW interconnection line that will carry hydropower
from power stations in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Pakistan.

The $330 million converter stations in Tajikistan and Pakistan will be executed
by Cobra, a Spanish engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company.
The company will build and install the associated substations

Interconnect is supported by the World Bank as part of
the CASA-1000 project.
The project will contribute to electricity trade
between Central and South Asian countries.
The 800 km interconnection will help the Pakistani government address the growing demand for electricity while enabling Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to make better use of their hydropower resources
